Saudi Arabia has welcomed a statement issued by the United Nations Security Council condemning the ongoing and escalating attacks carried out by the Houthi militia against the Kingdom, including attacks targeting civilian facilities, airports, and energy infrastructure, as well as continued threats to maritime navigation in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait.

In a statement on Friday, the Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized the importance of the presidential statement issued by Security Council members, including its call for the full implementation of Security Council Resolution 2216 (2015) and subsequent resolutions, as well as practical cooperation to prevent the Houthi group, which Riyadh designates as a terrorist organization, from obtaining weapons and other forms of support.

According to Asharq Al-Awsat newspaper, Saudi Arabia expressed appreciation for the solidarity shown by Security Council members in confronting attacks targeting civilians and civilian objects on its territory. The Kingdom reaffirmed its inherent right under international law to take all necessary measures to defend its security and protect its citizens and residents.

For his part, Jasem Albudaiwi, Secretary-General of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), expressed appreciation for the position conveyed by Security Council members. He said the condemnation of Houthi attacks sends a clear international message rejecting continued targeting of Saudi Arabia and its national assets, as well as threats to maritime security and international trade routes.

Albudaiwi explained that the statement was significant because it underscored the international community’s responsibility to halt these violations and prevent the Houthi militia from continuing to obtain weapons and support that fuel its attacks. He noted that the full implementation of Security Council Resolution 2216 constitutes an international obligation that must be fulfilled, helping bring an end to practices that threaten regional security and stability.

The GCC secretary-general affirmed that the council regards Saudi Arabia’s security as a fundamental pillar of the collective security system of the Gulf region. He added that Gulf states stand united and resolutely alongside the Kingdom and support all measures it takes to defend its sovereignty, safeguard its security, and protect its citizens and residents.
