Khartoum – Sudanhorizon
Bede Sudan, a Zain Fintech offshoot company, has announced the launching of the Basic Bank Account Number (BBAN) service via its digital wallet.
This launch, carried out in collaboration with Blue Nile Mashreq Bank, follows the fulfillment of all legal and regulatory requirements. It marks a new step toward strengthening integration between mobile payment services and the Sudanese banking sector, while expanding digital financial transfer options for users.
The service launch follows Bede ’s securing the approval from the Central Bank of Sudan (CBS)and completing the necessary legal and regulatory procedures, enabling broader connectivity between the digital wallet and Sudan’s banking system.
This service represents a significant milestone in Bede ’s journey to enhance banking integration and solidify its role within the country’s digital financial ecosystem. It facilitates the movement of funds between bank accounts and e-wallets, offering users greater flexibility in managing their daily financial transactions.
The BBAN service allows users to obtain a Basic Bank Account Number linked to their Bede wallet, which can be used to receive financial transfers. The number consists of the digit “15” followed by Sudan’s international dialing code (+249) and the Zain phone number associated with the Bede wallet. Additionally, the service enables beneficiaries to transfer and receive funds through all Sudanese banks, or in cash via Bede agents and Zain outlets, in accordance with the service’s approved procedures. The service holds particular importance in supporting the Central Bank of Sudan’s efforts to reduce reliance on cash, encourage the use of digital payment methods, and expand access to formal financial services—thereby fostering financial inclusion and facilitating transactions for both individuals and merchants.
Ms. Wafaa Hammoudi, General Manager of Beady Sudan, stated:
“The launch of the BBAN service marks a significant milestone in Bede’s journey toward building a more integrated digital financial ecosystem in Sudan. Securing approval from the Central Bank of Sudan—following the fulfillment of all legal and regulatory requirements—reflects our commitment to developing reliable financial services that operate within approved banking frameworks and meet our customers’ needs.”
She added: “The significance of this step goes beyond simply offering a new option for receiving funds; it extends to strengthening the interconnection between digital wallets and bank accounts, and facilitating the flow of funds across various payment channels. We believe that expanding the use of digital solutions is a cornerstone for reducing cash dependency, simplifying daily transactions, and advancing financial inclusion in Sudan.”
Hammoudi concluded: “We will continue to collaborate with our partners in the banking sector and regulatory bodies to enhance Bede’s services and expand their integration with Sudan’s financial ecosystem. This aims to provide users with greater convenience and flexibility, while supporting digital transformation and improving the financial services experience across the country.”
Launched in April 2025, the Bede wallet provides services via a mobile app, USSD for feature phones, and an online portal—complemented by a network of agents and merchants—thereby enabling access to financial services through multiple channels.
By developing banking integration services and expanding the scope of digital transactions through the launch of the BBAN service, Bede Sudan continues to support the creation of a more interconnected financial ecosystem. It offers practical solutions that help individuals manage their finances and conduct daily transactions with ease, while reinforcing the role of fintech in fostering financial inclusion and the transition toward a digital economy in Sudan.
