Foreign Minister: Sudan Open to Dialogue with Ethiopia if It Halts Support for the Militia
Khartoum – Sudanhorizon
The Sudanese Foreign Minister , Mohi-Eddin Salem, held talks on Tuesday with the visiting French Special Envoy for Sudan and the Horn of Africa, Jean-Marie Safa.
The meeting addressed relations between the two countries and ways to achieve peace and stability in Sudan and the Horn of Africa. The Minister emphasized Sudan’s aspiration to build new relations with France based on integrity, transparency, and facts.
He urged the envoy to acquaint himself with the realities of the situation in Sudan and the stance of the Sudanese people, rather than adopting false narratives promoted by certain Sudanese factions seeking a return to power—such as the fabricated claim that the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) army used chemical weapons.
The Minister affirmed that Sudan is on the verge of overcoming this difficult phase and called on France to reopen its embassy and cultural center in Khartoum.
Regarding the situation in Ethiopia, the Minister stressed that Sudan is a peace-loving nation—having experienced the repercussions of war—and is open to dialogue with Ethiopia, provided that Addis Ababa ceases its support for the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia and stops underming Sudan’s security.
For his part, the French envoy affirmed his country’s desire to establish transparent relations with Sudan. He stated that Paris also wishes to bridge the divide among the Sudanese people to achieve reconciliation through a Sudanese-Sudanese dialogue, adding that his country hopes the Sudanese people can ensure this conflict becomes the last war in Sudan.
It is noteworthy that a number of ambassadors from European, African, and Arab nations have recently presented their credentials to the Chairman of the Transitional Sovereign Council following the government’s return to Khartoum.
