Gedaref Calls on Geological Research Authority to Accelerate Surveys to Explore Mineral Reserves

Khartoum – Sudan Horizon

Gedaref State Governor, Lt. Gen. Mohamed Ahmed Hassan, has called on the General Authority for Geological Research, the technical arm of the Ministry of Minerals, to accelerate geological surveys across the state, particularly in the area allocated to it. He pledged to overcome all obstacles and provide the necessary facilities to ensure completion of a comprehensive survey.

During a visit to the Authority’s headquarters in Khartoum on Monday, the governor said: “My office is open to you at any time, but I urge you to accelerate the geological survey, especially in the area allocated to the state.” He called on the Authority to work with the state to promote the area and urged its staff to make greater efforts to uncover Sudan’s mineral wealth.

For his part, the Authority’s Director of Financial and Human Resources, Issam Babiker, announced that the Authority’s leadership is expected to visit Gedaref State early next month to discuss conducting a comprehensive geological survey. He explained that the Authority is working to bring its “Sandstone” project, one of its development initiatives, into production during 2027.

During the visit, the governor also toured the Geological Museum, which houses a diverse collection of Sudanese mineral resources. Officials, led by the museum director, provided him with a detailed briefing.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Hamad Bashir, Director of Development Projects; Geological Consultant Mujtaba Ibrahim, Executive Director for Geological Affairs; Geological Consultant Al-Tayeb Jalis, Director of State Offices; and Dr. Ahmed Madawi Ezzeldin, Director of the Director-General’s Office.
