Senior Official to Sudanhorizon: Ground Defenses Shoot Down Drones Targeting Atbara Without Damage

Atbara – Maryam Abshir

A senior official in the River Nile State government confirmed that security conditions in Atbara remain stable after an attack launched by drones operated by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) militia was foiled on Sunday.

Dr. Louay Mustafa, Chairman of the Higher Council for Information and government spokesman, told Sudanhorizon that ground defenses and anti-aircraft systems managed to shoot down all the drones that attempted to target Atbara this morning.

He added that the militia’s drones failed to hit their intended targets and that the city suffered no material or human losses. He stressed that life in the city is proceeding normally and that government institutions across the state are operating as usual.

He reaffirmed that the state is well protected and that security agencies remain vigilant and prepared to respond to any aggression, noting that they dealt with the external threat promptly and professionally.

Local media had reported earlier in the morning that around 11 drones were flying over Atbara with the aim of targeting some of the city’s vital facilities. However, ground defenses foiled the attacks and shot down the drones without causing any damage.
