Sudan and AfDB Partner to Strengthen Economic Stability

Minister of Finance Dr. Jibril Ibrahim stressed the importance of the partnership with the African Development Bank and the pivotal role the bank can play in supporting Sudan’s efforts to strengthen economic stability, stimulate productive sectors, and support infrastructure and essential services projects, paving the way for sustainable growth and development.

He made the remarks during a meeting at the ministry’s headquarters on Monday with the African Development Bank’s Country Director for Sudan, Mr. David, and his accompanying delegation. The meeting discussed ways to strengthen the partnership between Sudan and the bank and expand areas of cooperation in line with the economic and development priorities of the coming period.

The meeting addressed several areas of joint cooperation, with a focus on Sudan’s portfolio with the African Development Bank and ways to develop it and maximize its benefits in line with national priorities and the needs of the Sudanese economy. The two sides also discussed opportunities to direct support and resources toward priority sectors in ways that contribute to economic recovery, reconstruction, and the resumption of development activity.

The Minister of Finance stressed the importance of moving from broad cooperation frameworks toward more focused programs and areas of work directly linked to national priorities, while continuing institutional dialogue on Sudan’s portfolio and developing mechanisms to benefit from the resources and expertise provided by the bank.

For his part, the African Development Bank’s Country Director affirmed the bank’s commitment to continuing its support for Sudan and strengthening its partnership with the government. He underscored the importance of continued coordination on economic and development priorities and supporting efforts aimed at recovery, reconstruction, and the resumption of development activity.

The two sides stressed the importance of continuing technical and institutional consultations between the Ministry of Finance and the African Development Bank and working during the coming period to define priority areas of cooperation and develop Sudan’s portfolio in a way that enhances the effectiveness of the partnership and supports the country’s recovery, stability, and economic development objectives.
