Sovereignty Council Chairman Congratulates Zambian President on Re-Election

Chairman of Sudan’s Transitional Sovereignty Council, General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, congratulated President Hakainde Hichilema on his re-election as President of the Republic of Zambia.

In a post published today (Friday) by the Zambian Ministry of Foreign Affairs on its X account, the Chairman of the Sovereignty Council reaffirmed Sudan’s commitment to strengthening the bonds of fraternity and shared history between the two countries and their peoples.

Zambia held presidential and parliamentary elections on August 13, contested by more than ten political parties. However, the actual competition for the presidency was between President Hichilema, who was seeking a second term after being elected in 2021, and his main challenger, Brian Mundubile, the candidate of the National Reconciliation Party for Unity and Prosperity.
