Egyptian FM: Sudan Is a Priority for Egypt, We Reject Any Threat to Its Unity or National Institutions

Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdelatty has affirmed that Egypt gives the Sudanese crisis particular priority in light of the longstanding ties between the two countries at both the official and popular levels, as well as the crisis’s direct implications for Egyptian national security and regional stability.

In an exclusive interview with Afro News 24, Abdelatty said Egypt’s position is based on full respect for Sudan’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity, while rejecting any parallel governing entities that could undermine the unity of the Sudanese state or the legitimacy of its national institutions.

He stressed that preserving and supporting Sudan’s national institutions is the fundamental guarantee for restoring security and stability in the country. He also referred to the statement issued by the Egyptian presidency in December 2025, which clearly outlined Egypt’s red lines regarding the Sudanese crisis.

Abdelatty added that Egypt continues to work with its partners to end the war and alleviate the suffering of the Sudanese people through intensive diplomatic contacts and ongoing consultations with regional and international partners, with the aim of creating conditions for the launch of an inclusive political process under Sudanese ownership.

He noted that coordination with regional and international parties involved in the Sudanese file is continuing within the framework of the Quad mechanism, contributing to efforts to unify initiatives aimed at containing the crisis and supporting stability.

Abdelatty also emphasized that Egypt attaches particular importance to the reconstruction of Sudan. He said Egyptian companies are prepared to contribute to rebuilding infrastructure and facilities destroyed by the war, drawing on their expertise and capabilities in support of efforts to restore security and stability and achieve development in Sudan.

In a related context, Abdelatty said Egypt maintains a consistent policy of supporting the sovereignty, unity, territorial integrity, and national institutions of states, particularly across Africa.

He explained that the Horn of Africa represents a direct extension of Egyptian national security because of its close connection to the security of the Red Sea, the Suez Canal, and global trade routes.

Cairo, he added, is closely monitoring the rapidly evolving developments in the region and working to prevent them from becoming a source of wider regional tensions. He stressed Egypt’s rejection of any unilateral measures that could impose a new reality in the region or threaten Red Sea security.

Abdelatty further affirmed that the security and governance of the Red Sea fall exclusively within the jurisdiction of the states bordering it.
