128 People Poisoned in El-Gezirah State After Consuming Expired Yogurt

Teams from the Sudanese Standards and Metrology Organization (SSMO) in Al-Hasahisa locality, El-Gezirah State, acted swiftly after 128 cases of food poisoning were reported in the village of Qoz Al-Naqa, Abu Quta rural area. The poisoning occurred after the consumption of yogurt purchased from a local shop.
The inspection team conducted a field campaign, collecting samples of the yogurt product and sending them to laboratories to determine the exact cause of the incident and to verify the product’s compliance with specifications.
The director of the SSMO office in Al-Hasahisa, Engineer Omar Abdullah Saeed, explained that the inspection team visited the affected individuals and met with local officials and several residents who reported experiencing symptoms of poisoning immediately after consuming the product.
For his part, the head of the Inspection and Control Department, Engineer Ahmed Fallah, confirmed the readiness of the SSMO teams to receive consumer reports via the hotline 5960 or through direct messages. He emphasized the continuation of monitoring campaigns in markets and shops to protect consumers and ensure product safety. The Director of the El-Gezirah State Sector of the Sudanese Standards and Metrology Organization, Dr. Badr Al-Din Barbari, also directed the intensification of inspection campaigns throughout the state and the strengthening of consumer awareness programs through media outlets and social media platforms.
