Darfur Diaspora Association Welcomes UN Security Council’s Condemnation of RSF Attacks on El Fasher, Calls for Immediate Action

The Darfur Diaspora Association (DDA) in the United Kingdom has welcomed the United Nations Security Council’s strong condemnation of the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) attacks on El Fasher, North Darfur, and the bombing of the Saudi Hospital. However, the association has emphasised that condemnations alone are no longer sufficient in the face of the ongoing genocide and humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in the region.

In a press release on 3th of February, the DDA expressed its appreciation for the UN Security Council’s session on Friday, 31 January 2025, addressing the escalating violence in El Fasher. The city has been under a suffocating siege, with medical and humanitarian services collapsing entirely, leaving innocent civilians in dire need of protection and aid.

The DDA highlighted that the recent attacks, including the assault on the Saudi Hospital—the only functioning medical facility in El Fasher—have resulted in the deaths of dozens of patients and vulnerable individuals. These atrocities are part of a decades-long history of grave violations and violence against the people of Darfur, underscoring the urgent need for concrete action.

The association called on the UN Security Council to implement Resolution 2736, which mandates lifting the siege on El Fasher, protecting civilians, and establishing safe corridors for delivering humanitarian aid. The DDA stressed that any delay in taking decisive measures would lead to further massacres and exacerbate the already catastrophic humanitarian situation in the region.

“Condemnations are a step forward, but they are not enough to stop the genocide and suffering of innocent civilians,” the DDA stated. “The international community and human rights organisations must exert the highest levels of pressure to ensure the enforcement of the UN Security Council’s decisions and to end the ongoing atrocities in Darfur.”

The DDA also urged the international community to hold the perpetrators of these crimes accountable and to take immediate steps to protect civilians, restore humanitarian access, and bring an end to the violence that has plagued Darfur for decades.

The association’s statement concluded with a call for unity and action, emphasising that the people of Darfur cannot afford further delays or empty promises. “The time for action is now. The world must not stand by as Darfur faces yet another chapter of unimaginable suffering,” the DDA declared.
