Sudan and Türkiye Sign MoU on Diplomatic Training Cooperation

Sudan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Ambassador Mohi El-Din Salim, and his Turkish counterpart, Hakan Fidan, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) in Ankara on Tuesday to strengthen cooperation between the Diplomatic Academy of Türkiye’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Diplomatic Institute of Sudan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
The agreement aims to enhance cooperation in diplomatic training and professional development through the exchange of expertise, academic programmes and curricula, as well as the organisation of joint training courses, seminars and other collaborative activities designed to strengthen the capabilities of diplomats in both countries.
The signing took place on the sidelines of a meeting between the two ministers in the Turkish capital during the Sudanese foreign minister’s two-day official visit to Türkiye.
During their talks, the two sides reviewed the longstanding bilateral relationship between Sudan and Türkiye and explored ways to further strengthen cooperation in areas of mutual interest.
The ministers expressed satisfaction with the advanced level of Sudanese-Turkish relations and stressed the importance of expanding cooperation, particularly in the fields of economy, trade, investment, energy, mining, agriculture, education, culture, capacity building, diplomatic training and institutional exchange.
The Sudanese foreign minister briefed his counterpart on the latest developments in Sudan, outlining the government’s efforts to restore security and stability, safeguard the country’s sovereignty, unity and territorial integrity, and create the conditions necessary for reconstruction and the normal functioning of state institutions.
He also expressed Sudan’s appreciation for Türkiye’s support for the country’s sovereignty, unity and national institutions, as well as the humanitarian assistance provided to the Sudanese people. He said Khartoum looks forward to greater participation by Turkish government agencies, private sector companies and organisations in Sudan’s recovery, reconstruction and development efforts during the coming period.
For his part, Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan reaffirmed Türkiye’s support for Sudan’s unity, sovereignty and territorial integrity, pledging Ankara’s continued backing for efforts to achieve peace and stability, maintain humanitarian assistance and expand cooperation with Sudan across various sectors.
The two ministers also exchanged views on a number of regional and international issues of mutual concern, including developments in the Horn of Africa and the Red Sea, regional security and stability, and the humanitarian and security challenges arising from armed conflicts, the proliferation of weapons and the activities of armed groups. They stressed the importance of dialogue, coordination and regional cooperation in addressing these challenges.
The meeting concluded with both sides agreeing to continue consultation and coordination on bilateral, regional and international issues while working to elevate the strategic partnership between Sudan and Türkiye to broader horizons.
