Sudan’s Health Minister: International Partnerships to Mobilize Health Resources

Prime Minister Professor Kamil Idris has received a comprehensive briefing on the health situation in the country during his meeting, Sunday, in Khartoum, with Health Minister Dr. Haitham Mohamed Ibrahim and Undersecretary of the Ministry Dr. Ali Babiker Sayed Ahmed.

In a press statement, the Health Minister explained that he briefed the Prime Minister on the outcomes of recent foreign visits aimed at mobilizing resources and establishing international partnerships. These included his visit to the United States, during which $150 million was allocated to support health projects in Sudan, and his meeting with the World Bank, which resulted in the approval of a similar amount of $150 million for the second phase of the Bank’s projects with the Ministry of Health.

He also mentioned the Undersecretary’s visits to Syria, Egypt, and Jordan, during which agreements were signed concerning pharmaceutical security.

The Health Minister further indicated that he briefed the Prime Minister on the progress made regarding the Sudan Medical City project, the upcoming phases, and the plan to establish medical cities throughout the country.

Dr. Haitham Ibrahim confirmed that he extended an invitation to the Prime Minister to attend two major events in the coming weeks: the launch of the National Health Strategy 2026-2030, which will take place at the end of this month, and the opening of the Naeema Emergency Hospital in White Nile State at the beginning of next month.
