Khartoum Locality Security Committee Issues Key Directives to Strengthen Security and Curb Negative Practices
Khartoum – Sudanhorizon
The Khartoum Locality Security Coordination Committee, during a meeting held on Monday and chaired by the locality’s Executive Director, Abdel Moneim Al-Bashir, issued a package of decisions and directives aimed at strengthening security and reinforcing the authority of the state.
Among the measures adopted, the committee ordered the closure of all markets and commercial establishments at 11:00 p.m., instructing regular security forces to begin enforcing the decision immediately.
The committee also banned the operation of automotive repair workshops within residential neighborhoods, directing mechanics and business owners to relocate their activities to designated commercial zones. It further stressed the continued enforcement of the decision to close cafés and public venues where shisha (waterpipe) smoking takes place.
In addition, the committee instructed security authorities to reinforce checkpoints along major roads, bridges, and crossings by deploying joint security forces at strategic locations as part of a broader security plan to combat crime. It also approved the organization of large-scale regulatory campaigns to remove illegal and undesirable activities from local markets.
While reviewing the security and criminal situation, the committee reported a notable decline in crime rates, attributing the improvement to intensified joint security patrols and targeted operations in high-risk areas and crime hotspots. These operations resulted in the arrest of several suspects in various criminal cases, as well as the detention of a number of foreign nationals residing in the country illegally, who were subsequently referred to the relevant authorities.
The committee also received a briefing on preparations for the 2026 rainy season, which include the excavation and cleaning of 383 kilometers of secondary and intermediate drainage channels. Officials said the work is expected to be completed within two weeks.
The committee concluded by commending the locality’s overall performance during the first half of the year in both administrative and security matters, noting that these efforts have contributed to improved public services, enhanced security, and the continued return of residents to the capital.
