Sudan’s Minister of Youth and Sports, Professor Ahmed Adam, was briefed on plans to revive and develop cycling activities following the recent ministerial decision to establish a committee tasked with reforming the sport. The update came during a meeting on Wednesday with Al-Sanousi Ahmed, Executive Director of the Sudan Cycling Federation, and coach Adam Mukhtar, a member of the federation.

The federation’s Executive Director expressed his appreciation for the substantial support provided by the Ministry to the youth and sports sectors.

He revealed that practical arrangements have begun for the formation of Sudan’s national cycling team within the next six weeks. The team is expected to include athletes from all states across the country.

Al-Sanousi reaffirmed the federation’s full commitment to implementing ministerial directives aimed at restoring sporting activities and returning them to their normal and effective course, as they were prior to April 15, 2023.

The federation also announced a package of upcoming programs and competitions, including the adoption of six major annual cycling races, to be held at a rate of one race every two months. The events will be hosted across the capital and various states, with the goal of highlighting Sudan’s cultural and natural diversity while promoting the values of peace and stability.

In addition, the federation confirmed its efforts to establish a strategic partnership with the Sudan University of Science and Technology, specifically its College of Physical Education, to benefit from its academic expertise in training and preparing the national team. The initiative aims to move beyond traditional training methods and enhance Sudan’s competitiveness in regional and international sporting events.
