Sudan Reaffirms Commitment to Belt and Road Energy Partnership

Sudan participated in the first senior officials meeting of the Belt and Road Energy Partnership, organized and chaired by the Chinese National Energy Administration in Beijing. Representatives from 35 member countries of the partnership, along with representatives from several Chinese institutions, companies, research centers, and universities, attended the meeting.
Sudan was represented – via video conference – by the Secretary-General of the Ministry of Energy and Petroleum, Engineer Ali Abdelrahman Mohamed Ibrahim, along with the Director-General of Petroleum Policies and Economics, Imam Allah Gabo, and the Director-General of Planning and Policies at the Ministry, Othman Al-Amin Al-Arabi. Azza Al-Azraq, First Secretary at the Sudanese Embassy in Beijing, also participated in person and delivered Sudan’s statement to the meeting.
Sudan’s National Radio correspondent in China, Osama Mukhtar, reported that the meeting addressed energy security and sustainable energy issues, as well as ways to develop partnerships in the energy sector within the framework of current and future Belt and Road Initiative projects. Discussions also covered areas of cooperation between member states and Chinese institutions and companies to enhance energy security and accelerate the transition to new, renewable, and clean energy sources. Arrangements for the fourth ministerial conference of the Belt and Road Initiative’s energy partnership were also discussed.
In its address to the meeting, Sudan emphasized the depth of its strategic relations with the People’s Republic of China, praising the role of Sudanese-Chinese cooperation in developing the oil and energy sector. Sudan also reaffirmed its commitment to the energy partnership within the Belt and Road Initiative, commending its role in strengthening cooperation and integration among member states and facilitating the exchange of expertise, practical experiences, best practices, and relevant studies.

During the meeting, Sudan reviewed the great potential of the energy sector and the available investment opportunities, along with the most prominent features of the National Strategic Energy Plan for the period 2026–2030, calling on member states and companies to seize these opportunities and contribute to the rehabilitation and development of the energy sector in the country.
