The Egyptian military spokesperson announced that law enforcement forces, in coordination with personnel from the Ministry of Interior, carried out a large-scale security operation within the Southern Military Region targeting a number of criminal hotspots exploited by organized crime networks for illicit activities.

According to the statement, the operation focused on combating drug trafficking, illegal arms trading, unauthorized gold mining, and irregular migration.

The campaign resulted in the arrest of 223 individuals, including 87 Egyptians and 136 foreign nationals. Authorities also seized 14 vehicles, wireless communication devices, sums of money in both local and foreign currencies, quantities of unlicensed weapons and ammunition, as well as equipment and machinery used in illegal mining activities.

The statement added that security forces apprehended a number of undocumented migrants who lacked valid residency documents. All suspects and seized materials were referred to the relevant judicial authorities for legal proceedings.

It further noted that several other migrants voluntarily surrendered to security checkpoints as the operation commenced. They were subsequently repatriated to their countries of origin, with their humanitarian needs taken into consideration.

The Egyptian military emphasized that law enforcement forces will continue carrying out operations aimed at dismantling criminal networks and securing the country’s borders.

The statement stressed that the Egyptian state retains all options necessary to confront security threats and possesses the capability to protect its territory and national resources under all circumstances.
