A specialized workshop on livestock and veterinary medicine was launched in Beijing, the Chinese capital. Organized by the Institute of Agricultural and Rural Management (affiliated with the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs) in collaboration with the U.N Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO), the workshop is designed for high-ranking officials from the Sudanese Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock, and Fisheries.
Sudan National Radio’s correspondent in Beijing, Osama Mukhtar, reported that the opening ceremony was attended by the Sudanese Ambassador to China, Omar Issa, along with the FAO representative in Sudan, the Vice President of the China Association of Animal Science and Veterinary Medicine, the former Director of the Chinese Center for Animal Disease Control and Prevention, the Vice President of the Institute of Agricultural and Rural Management, and the Sudanese participants from the Ministry of Livestock and Fisheries.
In his opening remarks, Ambassador Omar Issa emphasized that this workshop represents a fruit of Sudanese-Chinese cooperation and South-South cooperation in the areas of capacity building and knowledge exchange. He expressed his appreciation to the Chinese government, the Chinese Ministry of Agriculture, and the FAO, noting that the workshop reflects the depth of the strategic and historical relations between the two countries and contributes to strengthening institutional and technical cooperation in the livestock sector.
Ambassador Omar Issa reviewed the development of agricultural and livestock cooperation between Sudan and China, emphasizing that the program is a culmination of the successful visit of the Sudanese Minister of Livestock and Fisheries to China recently, which resulted in new understandings and opportunities for cooperation in the areas of animal production, research, and veterinary technologies.
He also highlighted the importance of the initiatives included in the Beijing Action Plan of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation (2025-2027), particularly those related to supporting livestock development, preventing animal diseases, and developing the fisheries and aquaculture sectors, expressing Sudan’s aspiration to benefit from China’s advanced experience in these fields.
For his part, the FAO representative affirmed the organization’s commitment to supporting Sudan in the fields of agriculture and livestock, noting that organizing this workshop was the culmination of several years of joint efforts, despite the challenges posed by the COVID-19 pandemic and the exceptional circumstances Sudan has faced.
Chinese officials also reiterated their country’s keenness to strengthen cooperation with Sudan in the areas of livestock and veterinary medicine, and to exchange technical and technological expertise, thereby contributing to agricultural development and achieving food security in both countries.
The workshop, which will continue for several days, addresses specialized topics including animal production, veterinary health, animal disease control, and modern technologies in managing and developing the livestock sector, in addition to field visits to relevant facilities and specialized departments.
