Khartoum Security Committee: Increasing Security Patrols in Vulnerable Areas
Khartoum – Sudanhorizon
The Khartoum Local Security Affairs Coordination Committee, during its meeting today (Monday) chaired by the Executive Director of the Locality, Abdul-Moneim Al-Bashir, has called for increasing of joint security patrols, focusing on areas in southern Khartoum, specifically the central and local market axes, the Golden Square neighborhoods, Sator, and Nile Street. The patrols are to target all negative phenomena, lawbreakers, foreigners, and those cooperating with militias.
The Sudan News Agency reported that the committee directed the establishment of security cordons in areas of security vulnerability and crime hotspots as part of preventative measures to combat organized crime. The committee also emphasized the enforcement of the Security and Defense Council’s directives prohibiting regular and supporting forces from carrying weapons in public places, restricting their use to forces working to secure locations or those assigned specific tasks within their area of responsibility.
The committee also revealed that intensive campaigns against drug trafficking and use have resulted in the arrest of several suspects. Charges have been pressed in accordance with the Narcotics and Psychotropic Substances Act. The committee further reported the apprehension of 21 foreign nationals last week for violating residency regulations. Legal procedures were initiated against them, and they were handed over to the immigration police.
The committee also urged all citizens to report any incidents to the police to protect their rights and to contribute to the security of their neighborhoods, fostering cooperation and partnership between law enforcement and the public.
Separately, the committee emphasized the need for World Cup viewing venues and clubs to adhere to the directives of the state’s Ministry of Culture, Information, and Tourism. This includes completing all necessary legal and technical procedures and obtaining the required permits after approval from security agencies.
The committee announced the completion of all preparations to secure the final match of the Premier League, scheduled for next Wednesday at Khartoum International Stadium. The committee reviewed the arrangements being made at the state police headquarters and approved the measures taken to secure this important football event, which also coincides with the reopening of Khartoum International Stadium after its renovation.
Furthermore, the committee reviewed the security situation in all police areas and confirmed the calm security conditions within the local area of responsibility.
