Coordination Between Geological Research Authority and Infrastructure Ministry to Address Seepage Phenomenon in River Nile State

The River Nile State office of the General Authority for Geological Research held discussions with the state’s Ministry of Infrastructure and Urban Development on strengthening technical cooperation to address the phenomenon of ground seepage and its impact on urban planning and infrastructure, as well as supporting early preparations for the upcoming rainy season.
Mohamed Taher, Director of the Authority’s office in River Nile State, announced that during a meeting with the Minister of Infrastructure and Urban Development, the two sides agreed to form a joint technical committee composed of specialists from both the Authority and the Ministry. The committee will study the seepage phenomenon and develop appropriate measures to mitigate its future impacts.
The agreement also includes reviewing major projects and facilities planned for implementation to ensure that they are based on the necessary geological and engineering studies.
Taher affirmed the Authority’s readiness to participate in technical committees responsible for rainy season preparations and to provide scientific support in areas such as topographical mapping, analysis of natural slopes, studies of valley channels, and water drainage routes. These efforts are aimed at reducing the risks of floods and flash floods.
The discussions took place as part of Eid al-Adha holiday visits and activities, which included a visit by the Deputy Governor of River Nile State. During the visit, he reviewed the office’s activities and the challenges it faces, expressing his commitment to addressing several of the issues raised in the coming period.
The delegation also visited the administration of Nile Valley University, where they discussed prospects for cooperation in training, scientific research, and capacity building to strengthen partnerships with academic institutions in the state.
The program concluded with a visit to the state office of the Sudanese Mineral Resources Company.
