Road and Bridge Maintenance Tenders to Be Announced in Khartoum Next Week

The Supreme Committee for Preparing a Suitable Environment for the Return of Citizens to Khartoum State held a meeting on Saturday chaired by Prime Minister Kamil Idris. During the meeting, committee members agreed on the need to accelerate efforts to restore services to the national capital, Khartoum. The Prime Minister’s Office also pledged support for all relevant committees and to provide the necessary resources to enable them to complete their work as quickly as possible.

The meeting reviewed a report presented by Khartoum State Governor Ahmed Othman Hamza on the rehabilitation of the water sector and how to address the effects of water supply interruptions in some neighborhoods of the capital. The committee also heard a briefing from the Director of Khartoum State Water Authority, Mohamed Ahmed Awad, on efforts to expand the water network and resolve obstacles facing the work.

In the energy sector, the committee received a detailed report from the Director General of Sudan Electricity, Abdullah Mohamed Ali, on rehabilitating the electricity sector and arrangements to address outages in some neighborhoods. The director general presented the emergency plan through the end of 2026, which includes increasing the number of generating units brought into service, addressing distribution problems through the maintenance and installation of more than 1,100 transformers across the capital, and continuing efforts to supply electricity to various locations.

For his part, Minister of Culture, Information and Tourism Khalid Al-Essair said in a press statement that the meeting discussed the rehabilitation of major roads and bridges, referring to the report presented by Minister of Infrastructure and Transport Seif Al-Nasr Al-Tijani Haroun on efforts to rehabilitate roads and bridges, including the Halfaya, Mak Nimer, and Shambat bridges.

The minister informed citizens and residents of the capital that maintenance tenders will be announced next week with full transparency to ensure the work is awarded to qualified companies capable of delivering quality implementation. He added that the committee praised the efforts made by the committees over the past period and pledged to remove all obstacles to continue the work and provide the means for success.
