Artist Profile: Hassan Babiker “Bass”

We dedicate this episode of the series documenting the biography of people of creativity and arts, especially music, to a creative young man whose star shone in the sky of music through the bass guitar and his name was associated with it, Hassan Babiker Hassan or as some like to call him “Hassan Bass”.

Hassan was born in Al-Faw in Gedaref State and received his primary education there. He moved to Umm Badda Model Secondary School in high school and then to the College of Music and Drama, specialising in counter bass. He is continuing his postgraduate studies for a master’s degree in research entitled (Rhythmic Beats in Contemporary Sudanese Song Melodies).

He joined the faculty of the College of Music and Drama as a teaching assistant, then became a music professor at the Military Institute and a teacher in several public and private schools.

He participated in various festivals inside and outside the country, such as (The al-Nour and Al-Rahhal Festival with the College of Music and Drama Choir.. and the Joanna Amal Festival).

He joined the “Aqd Al-Jallad” singing band and became an active member of it. He was also active in musical bands for several artists (Bilal Musa, Shabarga, Jamal Farfour, Remaz Mirghani).

He worked as a member of the College of Music and Drama Choir, the College of Aviation Choir (Al-Madar), the School of Administrative Sciences Choir, Ahfad University, the Sudanese Students Union Choir, and many other choirs.

Hassan Bass says he “seeks to develop an understanding of the bass instrument and how to use it in Sudanese songs and to advance it from the traditional side (desirable and acceptable development).
