Vienna – Sudanhorizon

Sudan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and international organizations in Vienna, Ambassador Magdi Ahmed Mofadal, addressed on Friday the session titled “Roundtable on Green Industrialization in the Context of Crises,” held within the Vienna International Energy and Climate Forum.

Ambassador Mofadal called on the international community to support Sudan’s industrial recovery program, currently being prepared in cooperation with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization. This includes providing green and blended financing, enhancing technical cooperation, and building national capacities in renewable energy sectors.

He emphasized the importance of taking into account Sudan’s unique circumstances and its significant potential in renewable energy, which qualifies it to contribute to strengthening food security in Africa and the Arab world, support green mining, contribute to peace and stability at both national and regional levels, and advance comprehensive economic and social development efforts.

The ambassador explained that the key features of Sudan’s vision for green industrialization include ensuring affordable energy access for all citizens—especially youth and women—achieving balanced development between states and regions and between rural and urban areas, and expanding successful experiences in hydropower, solar, and bioenergy. This also includes the use of renewable energy in cold storage and in the processing and manufacturing of food products.
