The Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs has welcomed the Ugandan government’s official apology for the remarks made by the son of the Ugandan President, who also serves as the Commander of Uganda’s Defense Forces, on his X platform account on December 17. The Sudanese Foreign Ministry had described these statements as “regrettable.”
In a memorandum addressed to the Sudanese Embassy in Kampala, the Ugandan Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized that the comments did not represent the official stance of the Ugandan government. It clarified that official positions are conveyed through established diplomatic channels, and the X platform is not an official medium for government announcements.
The Ugandan Foreign Ministry reiterated its government’s commitment to peaceful coexistence and strengthening bilateral relations with Sudan, including cooperation to address peace and security challenges.
This memorandum was issued in response to a note from the Sudanese Embassy in Kampala, which forwarded a statement from Sudan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs on December 18. The statement condemned the Ugandan military official’s comments on X and requested a formal apology from the Ugandan government.
The incident stemmed from statements made by the Commander of Uganda’s Defense Forces, sparking diplomatic tensions that have now been addressed through Uganda’s formal apology and assurances of continued collaboration.
