The Secretary General of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Veron Mosengo-Omba, has resigned from his post. According to a press release published on Sunday, Mr. Mosengo-Omba, 66, who was appointed in March 2021, said he would be leaving his post to pursue personal projects.
He added that after more than 30 years of an international career dedicated to promoting a perfect football that unites people, to education, and to creating opportunities for hope, he has decided to resign from his position as Secretary General of the Confederation of African Football to pursue personal projects.
He added that now that he has been able to dispel the doubts that some have tried so hard to sow in his mind, he could now retire with peace of mind and without any constraints, leaving the Confederation of African Football more prosperous than ever.
Mosengo-Omba expressed his “sincere” gratitude to the President of the Confederation of African Football (CAF), Dr. Patrice Motsepe, his team, and all those who have contributed, directly or indirectly, to enabling CAF and organized African football to achieve real and tangible progress.

He concluded by saying, “We hope that this progress will continue and be maintained.”
One of the biggest challenges Mr. Mosengo-Omba faced was the events that occurred during the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations final in Morocco last January between Senegal and Morocco.
The Senegalese players walked off the pitch in protest after the referee awarded a controversial penalty to Morocco in the final seconds of regulation time.
They then returned from the dressing room to complete the match, before winning 1-0 in extra time after Morocco missed the controversial penalty.
However, a few weeks ago, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) Appeals Committee declared Morocco the winner of the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations, ruling that Senegal had forfeited the match due to their withdrawal from the field and awarding the host nation, Morocco, a 3-0 victory. Senegal has appealed the decision to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS).
Reports indicate that CAF’s Director of Competitions, Samson Adamu, will assume the role of Acting Secretary General.
