UNDP Announces Readiness to Provide Development Technical Support to Sudan

Federal Finance Minister Gibril Ibrahim affirmed the government’s interest in the technical assistance and initiatives provided by the United Nations Development Programme to support reconstruction and rebuilding efforts for what was destroyed by the war in Sudan.

During a meeting on Sunday in Khartoum with the acting UNDP Resident Representative in Sudan, Soudaiou Boro Zoukhova, the minister praised the program’s efforts in promoting stability, economic recovery, and contributing to the implementation of development projects.

The minister called for intensified efforts to attract international support through regional and international development and financing organizations to assist Sudan and contribute to development, reconstruction, and future projects. He stressed the need to focus on providing clean and safe water through renewable energy sources to serve larger populations in secure areas, as well as ensuring food availability.

He also highlighted the importance of supporting the state’s efforts toward digital transformation, economic reform, and integrating the informal economy into the formal sector to achieve economic development in the country.

The minister further endorsed organizing an informational conference for the private sector in coordination with the United Nations Development Programme in Sudan to encourage participation in development and service projects across the country.

For her part, acting Resident Representative Soudaiou Boro Zoukhova called for stronger coordination between Sudan and the program to maximize benefit from the services offered by international and regional development institutions. She confirmed the program’s readiness to provide all forms of technical support needed to implement development projects in Sudan.

The meeting was attended by Amin Abulqasim, Director of Clusters and Bilateral Cooperation at the General Administration for External Financing at the ministry, the acting Director of the UN Agencies Department at the ministry, and Saif Al-Nasr Ibrahim, Economic Coordinator for the United Nations Development Programme in Sudan.
