Workshop on Regulating the Electricity Sector and Energy Market

The Technical Authority for Electricity Regulation and Control, Red Sea Office, organized an awareness workshop,Tuesday, in Port Sudan on the role of the Technical Authority in regulating the electricity sector and the electricity market. The workshop saw wide participation from government and private entities, experts, specialists, and those interested in the energy sector.
Engineer Alaa El-Din Adam Abu Zeid, Director of the Red Sea Office, stated that the workshop is part of the Technical Authority’s efforts to strengthen the regulation of the electricity sector and establish technical and regulatory frameworks that ensure the safety of electrical systems, the quality of equipment and services, and consumer protection, in addition to encouraging investment in the energy sector.
Abu Zeid emphasized the importance of ongoing cooperation and coordination with relevant authorities in regulating the import of electrical equipment, devices, and energy equipment, and ensuring their compliance with approved technical specifications and requirements.
The workshop was attended by the Secretary General of the Red Sea State Government, the Director General of Infrastructure and Urban Planning, a representative of the Sudanese Customs Forces, the Chairman of the Sudanese Contractors Union, a representative of the Director General of the Sudanese Standards and Metrology Organization, the Registrar of Companies in Red Sea State, a representative of the Director General of the Sudan Electricity Company, the Sudanese Thermal Power Generation Company, the Sudanese Electricity Distribution Company, the Sudanese Hydroelectric Power Generation Company, and the Union of Customs Brokers, in addition to a number of representatives from relevant authorities, various energy companies, experts, and specialists.
The workshop concluded with a number of recommendations aimed at strengthening technical oversight, regulating the electricity market, and supporting the use of modern technologies in accordance with approved technical standards.
