Diplomatic source to Sudanhorizon: The Security Council Session Tomorrow is to Renew Darfur Sanctions Only
Sudanhorizon – Exclusive
Senior diplomatic sources confirmed to the Sudanhorizon news website that the UN Security Council session scheduled for Wednesday is procedural and dedicated to extending the sanctions imposed on Darfur in accordance with Resolution 1591 issued by the UN Security Council in 2004, denying any tendency to impose sanctions during the session.
According to the same source, the Security Council will listen to a brief report from the Committee of Experts concerned with assessing the situation in Darfur, and it is expected that Sudan will respond to the information contained in the report.
The Permanent Representative of Sudan to the United Nations, Ambassador Al-Harith Idris, had revealed in an exclusive statement to the Sudanhorizon news website published two days ago, that a meeting was held by the Security Council to discuss the humanitarian situation in Sudan at a time when Sudanese diplomacy is seeking to confront the hostile moves made by some international parties to impose sanctions to expand the scope of the relevant resolution to include all of Sudan and then impose it on the country.
