Tadjadine Niam Comments on the Outcomes of the Jeddah Talks

The chief negotiator of the Doha Document for Peace in Darfur, researcher in international, diplomatic and humanitarian affairs Mr.Tadjadine Bechir Niam, said that it became clear to the Sudanese government that the US administration wanted a delegation that only represents the army and not the Sudanese government.

In an exclusive comment provided to the “Sudanhorizon” news website, Niam said that: “Issuing a statement is an important step because in most similar cases, the head of the delegation or even the Sudanese government will not issue any statement, and news agencies, especially those paid for, will disseminate contradictions and unbalanced analyses.”

He pointed out that the US administration’s step in specifying a negotiating delegation from the Sudanese army only is a reduction and stripping of the president of the Sovereignty Council of his sovereign powers, and unrecognizing the existence of a government representing the Sudanese people, including the army and civilians.

He added, wondering: “But the question is why does the US government seeks to turn back the clock, when it granted an entry visa to the president of the Sovereignty Council to address the UN General Assembly, and it announced that the Rapid Support Forces violated human rights and committed war crimes?”
