Sudanese Ministry of Finance: “We Are Keen to Strengthen Cooperation with UNICEF”

The Acting Undersecretary of the Ministry of Finance, Dr. Mohamed Ali Juma, affirmed the government’s commitment to strengthening joint cooperation with the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) to contribute to the well-being of children and mothers in Sudan.
This came during his address on Monday in Khartoum to the first quarter 2026 review meeting of UNICEF’s country program activities in Sudan and its third-party activities.
Dr Juma explained that the meeting aimed to discuss reaching a common understanding among partners regarding UNICEF’s framework, assessing achievements during the first quarter of this year, directing its support and work towards education, women, children, health, and water in accordance with development priorities, and identifying the main areas of work that should be covered within the framework of joint work and cooperation.
He added that the agreement between the Sudanese government and the United Nations, outlined in the Interim Cooperation Framework document, focuses on several priorities that serve as a guiding framework for the work of UN agencies operating in Sudan. These priorities include: restoring comprehensive basic services, economic recovery, livelihood resilience and food security, peace and justice, strengthening institutions, and addressing environmental and climate change issues, as well as disaster risk management.
He emphasized that the Ministry looks forward to fruitful and constructive discussions that will contribute to improving and optimizing the use of resources to achieve the desired objectives.
For his part, Sheldon, UNICEF Representative in Sudan, commended the Sudanese government’s commitment to continued cooperation and partnership with the organization. He called for strengthening the partnership between the two sides in various fields, affirming the organization’s readiness to exert further efforts and stand with Sudan, supporting the government’s efforts to restore basic services and reach all targeted groups throughout the country.
During the meeting, the performance of the first quarter of this year was reviewed, highlighting key achievements, major challenges and how to overcome them. The meeting also identified the most important priorities for the next phase and the organization’s plan for 2026. Discussions also covered social policy, child protection, education, health, nutrition, and a focus on humanitarian aspects and capacity building.
The meeting emphasized the need for close coordination between the Ministry, UNICEF, and all partners to facilitate the implementation of all projects and programs in the country.
It is worth noting that the meeting was attended by representatives from UNICEF, the Federal Ministry of Health, the Drinking Water Unit, the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Development, the Central Bureau of Statistics, the Ministry of Interior, the Ministry of Education, the National Council for Child Welfare, and several representatives from various departments within the Ministry of Finance.
