Sudan Expresses Desire to Resume Activities within IGAD

Sudan has renewed its desire to resume its activities within the Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) after it had frozen its membership in the east African organization for reasons related to the positions adopted by the authority on the ongoing war in Sudan.
The Vice President of the Transitional Sovereign Council, Commander Malik Agar, who arrived in Djibouti, Sunday, delivered a written message to the President of Djibouti, Ismail Omar Guelleh, from the President of the Transitional Sovereign Council, Lieutenant General Abdel Fattah Al-Burhan, dealing with bilateral relations between the two countries and ways to develop them.
The Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Hussein Al-Amin Al-Fadil, has explained in a press statement that the Vice President of the Sovereign Council has discussed with the President of Djibouti during the meeting developments in the situation and the political path in the country as well as the Sudan file in the African Union and the IGAD organization.
The Secretary explained that Agar congratulated the President of Djibouti on his country’s win of the African Union Commission chair, represented by Mr. Mahmoud Ali Youssef, who was elected as the Chairman of the Commission during the most recent AU summit.
He expressed Sudan’s confidence that the new leadership will be able to correct the Commission’s course towards carrying out its role in the required manner in finding effective African solutions to African issues.
