Sudan Exports 2.25 Million Head of Livestock in First Half of 2026

Sudan’s Ministry of Animal Resources and Fisheries has announced that the country exported 2.25 million head of livestock during the first half of 2026.
Speaking to Sudanhorizon, the Ministry’s Undersecretary, Dr. Ammar Al-Sheikh, said Sudan “managed to export 2.25 million head of livestock between January and June 2026.”
Al-Sheikh added that the volume exported was in line with the ministry’s plan. He also revealed that leather exports have been suspended because tanneries ceased operations as a result of the war, stressing that efforts to rehabilitate them are ongoing.
“Leather exports will resume as soon as the tanneries return to operation,” he said.
He noted that meat exports have also been affected by the war due to the shutdown of cold storage facilities and the closure of Khartoum Airport. He explained that the ministry is currently working to rehabilitate four slaughterhouses, in addition to restoring refrigerated storage and freezing facilities and improving meat transportation infrastructure.
Al-Sheikh further stated that Sudan has received import requests from numerous countries, including Arab, African, and Asian nations, for its meat exports. He identified Saudi Arabia and Egypt as Sudan’s traditional export markets and expressed optimism that meat exports to both countries would resume in the near future, while also targeting new non-traditional markets.
