Sudan Defeats Ethiopia Again, Edges Closer to CHAN Finals
Benghazi – Sudanhorizon
Sudan’s national football team secured a 2-1 victory over Ethiopia in the second-leg match held on Wednesday afternoon at the Martyrs of Benina Stadium in Benghazi. The match was part of the second round of qualifiers for the African Nations Championship (CHAN) set to take place in Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda next February.
With this win, Sudan’s “Saqoor Al-Jedyan” (Falcons) now have 6 points, defeating Ethiopia in both the first and second legs. The team awaits the results of matches between Rwanda and South Sudan and Burundi and Uganda to determine its fate.
According to CAF’s competition rules, only one team from this group of five will qualify for the CHAN finals. Uganda, along with Tanzania and Kenya, is already guaranteed a spot as one of the host nations.
If teams are tied in points, fair play criteria—based on the number of yellow and red cards—will be used to break the tie.
In earlier matches, Uganda defeated Burundi in the first round, while South Sudan secured a 3-2 victory over Rwanda. South Sudan will need to win by more than two goals in their decisive match this Saturday to secure the lone qualifying spot for the CHAN finals.
