Khartoum – Sudanhorizon
Minister of Energy and Oil Mutasim Ibrahim Ahmed held an expanded meeting today with senior officials of the country’s electricity sector to discuss the repercussions of the attack on the Al-Markhiyat substation this morning. The attack was carried out using drones by the rebel Rapid Support Forces militia, causing extensive damage to the substation and forcing it out of service.
The meeting examined the technical impact of the attack, which affected large parts of Khartoum and River Nile states, as well as several other states, resulting in power outages. It also reviewed the damage and malfunctions affecting the Al-Hawata, Al-Junayd, Mashkur, and Al-Fao substations, which have negatively impacted the stability of electricity supplies across the national grid.
For his part, Engineer and Consultant Abdullah Ahmed Mohamed, Director General of Sudan Electricity Holding Company, confirmed that ongoing engineering and technical assessments are working to identify the damage sustained by the Al-Markhiyat substation. He said the necessary repairs would begin immediately, with intensified field efforts to accelerate the work and restore electricity services to normal as quickly as possible.
