Sudan Cuts Ties with UAE, Declares It an “Aggressor State” Amid Escalating Conflict

In a dramatic escalation of tensions, Sudan’s Security and Defence Council has officially declared the United Arab Emirates (UAE) an “aggressor state,” announcing the severing of diplomatic ties and the withdrawal of Sudan’s embassy and consulate from the Gulf nation.
The council, in an emergency statement issued Tuesday, accused the UAE of orchestrating a two-year-long campaign of aggression against Sudan’s sovereignty and national unity. According to the statement, the UAE has supported the Rapid Support Forces (RSF)โa militia branded by Khartoum as “terrorist and rebellious”โin its ongoing battle against the Sudanese Armed Forces.
“When the UAE realised the defeat of its local proxy, driven back by our Armed Forces, it escalated its support,” the council said. It alleged that Abu Dhabi has been supplying the RSF with advanced strategic weaponry used in attacks targeting vital infrastructure, including oil and gas depots, the Port and Airport of Port Sudan, power stations, and civilian hotels. These actions, the council warned, pose serious risks to regional and international security, particularly in the Red Sea corridor.
Citing Article 51 of the UN Charter, which affirms a nation’s right to self-defence, the council said Sudan “reserves the right to respond to this aggression by all necessary means” to protect its sovereignty and ensure the safety of civilians and humanitarian aid operations.
The Security and Defence Council also praised the resilience of the Sudanese people, the national army, security forces, joint units, and the grassroots popular resistance. It pledged that the Sudanese state remains fully capable of defending its territory and maintaining national security.
“May Sudan remain dignified, honoured, proud, stable, and victorious,” the statement concluded.
