Sudan Calls for Support of Industrial Recovery Program and Enhanced Food Security

Vienna – Sudanhorizon
Sudan reiterated its call to the international community to support the industrial recovery program currently being developed in cooperation with the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO). Sudan commended the organization’s continued work in the country during the war and emphasized the importance of strengthening cooperation with UNIDO to support food security and sustainable agricultural and industrial development.
This stand was made in the statement delivered by Sudan’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations and other international organizations in Vienna, Magdi Ahmed Mufaddal, at an event organized by the Sudanese and European Union missions, co-chairs of the Group of Friends of Food Security in Vienna, with the participation of the Pakistani mission, on enhancing UNIDO’s role in achieving food security.
Ambassador Magdi called on the international community and relevant organizations to redouble their efforts to address the challenges threatening food security, foremost among them conflicts, climate change, desertification, water scarcity, and insufficient funding and technology. He noted that Africa is the most affected by food insecurity, according to the 2025 State of Food Security and Nutrition in the World report.
The delegate reviewed a number of development projects currently being implemented in cooperation with UNIDO in the states of Kassala, Red Sea, Gadarif, and River Nile, with funding from the European Union, Italy, Canada, and Japan. He called on international partners to support these projects and expand them to include other states and regions.
It is worth noting that the Group of Friends of Food Security in Vienna was established at the initiative of Sudan in October 2024, with the aim of strengthening the role of international organizations in supporting food security and sustainable development.
