Opening of Adre Border Crossing Extended to 3 Months for Humanitarian Purposes

The Sudanese government has announced a three-month extension of the opening of the Adre border crossing on the Sudan–Chad border for humanitarian assistance delivered by international relief organizations, effective July 1.
According to a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Monday, the decision reflects the government’s continued commitment to ensuring the delivery of humanitarian assistance to those affected across Sudan. It also reaffirms its commitment to facilitating humanitarian operations and strengthening cooperation and coordination with United Nations agencies and international, regional, and national humanitarian organizations, in accordance with national laws and regulations and the provisions of international humanitarian law.
In its statement, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs praised the efforts of the United Nations Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator in Sudan in completing the arrangements for the monitoring and oversight mechanism at the Adre crossing. The ministry said these efforts have enhanced transparency and helped ensure that humanitarian aid reaches its intended beneficiaries.
The statement emphasized that the decision to extend the opening of the Adre crossing reflects the government’s constructive approach to cooperation with the international community and humanitarian partners. It also renewed the government’s call on all humanitarian organizations to intensify their efforts and make full use of the facilities provided by the government to ensure that aid reaches all those in need across Sudan.
