The Sudanese Mineral Resources Company has announced export revenues of $1,557,000,000 (one billion, five hundred and fifty-seven million dollars) from a total production of approximately 62.5 tons of gold.

The announcement came after the company’s Executive Office approved the annual performance report during its fifth meeting, chaired by the General Manager, Mohamed Tahir Omar.

The General Manager stated that these impressive results reflect the employees’ commitment to achieving the company’s goals. He emphasized that this accomplishment highlights the company’s ability to overcome challenges and advance the mining sector to benefit the national economy.

The meeting also addressed environmental issues associated with traditional mining activities, particularly the widespread use of “cyanide mills” (known as “Tawahine Al-Karta”), which pose significant environmental risks. The meeting approved measures to regulate and legalize their operations while striving to balance revenue generation with environmental protection.

The General Manager affirmed that environmental concerns are a priority for the company and a national responsibility that must be handled seriously. The meeting proposed a comprehensive vision for developing the traditional mining sector, focusing on transforming it into a sustainable economic activity.

This vision includes:

  • Organizing and legalizing operations in the sector.
  • Providing modern technologies to traditional miners to reduce environmental harm and enhance production efficiency.
  • Establishing advanced central processing centres.
  • Developing awareness programs to promote responsible and sustainable practices in traditional mining.

This strategy ensures a balanced economic growth and environmental conservation approach in Sudan’s mining sector.
