Justice Minister Discusses Human Rights Situation with UN Expert in Geneva

The Sudanese Minister of Justice, Muawiya Osman Mohamed Khair, has reviewed with the appointed expert on the human rights situation in Sudan, Radwan Nouisir, at the Palais des Nations in Geneva, on Sunday, opportunities for cooperation and coordination between the two sides.
The Minister of Justice provided an update on the situation in the country and issues related to human rights, especially the efforts of the Sudanese judicial authorities for cementing justice and the rule of law, accountability, combating impunity, protecting civilians, and staving of violations and abuses of human rights and international humanitarian law.
The Minister also referred to the types of human rights violations committed by the militia, including destruction and occupation of civilian establishments and citizens’ homes, forced displacement, and authoring massacres against civilians, as cited in the report.
The Minister pointed out in his meeting with the UN official to observations and comments on some of the information contained in the report submitted at the 58th session on the human rights situation in Sudan.
For his part, Radwan Nouisir welcomed Sudan’s cooperation with human rights mechanisms and facilitating the return of the staff of the country office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights to Sudan to resume their work. He expressed his wishes for the return of stability and peace to Sudan.
The expert indicated that he plans to visit Sudan in the coming period. He also stressed his support for the unity and territorial integrity of country, questioning the seriousness of the efforts aimed at establishing a parallel government at this sensitive stage, referring to the statements of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in this regard.
