Fresh Information About UAE Passports Found in Khartoum Battles

Sudan Horizon – Exclusive
The Sudan Horizon news website has obtained new information regarding the identity of the United Arab Emirates (UAE) citizens whose passports were discovered last June by Sudanese authorities during the military battles between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum.
The website’s verified information contradicts the UAE government’s statements regarding Sudanese accusations at the United Nations Security Council.
The Sudanese representative to the United Nations, Al-Harith Idris, referred in a notable speech before the Security Council in June to the seizure of six passports belonging to UAE during the military confrontations in Sudan, accusing the UAE of direct involvement in supporting the Rapid Support Forces and supplying them with weapons, thereby fueling the conflict in Sudan.
The UAE denied these accusations in a statement from its representative at the United Nations. In its response, it claimed that the Emirati citizens “were in Sudan in 2022,” which contradicts video recordings obtained by Sudan Horizon indicating the presence of at least one of them in Sudan just days before the outbreak of the war on April 15, 2023.
The seized passports belong to Emiratis “Mohammed Abdul Rahman Mohammed Zakaria Al-Junaibi, Abdullah Salem Abdullah Salem Al-Kalbani, Awad Hamed Suhail Awad Al-Khaili, and Khalid Abdul Wahab Mustafa Ayaz,” among others. The Sudanese army recovered these passports in Khartoum during the military confrontations.
Using verification tools and open information sources, Sudan Horizon obtained information about the identities of some of the passport holders, including Emirati citizen “Awad Hamed Suhail Awad Al-Khaili,” the son of Major General Hamed Suhail Awad Al-Khaili, the military companion of the late Emirati ruler Sheikh “Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan” for over 45 years and one of his closest associates. Major General Hamed Suhail passed away last May at the age of 104, and the Emirati presidency mourned him.
The site’s information indicates that Awad Hamed Suhail, the passport holder found in Sudan, is the cousin of Sheikh Saif bin Zayed, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior of the UAE, and Sheikh Saif bin Zayed is married to Awad’s sister, “Asma Hamed Suhail.”
Awad, the passport holder, is also a cousin of Sheikh Hamid bin Zayed, Head of the Crown Prince’s Court in Abu Dhabi and a member of the Executive Council of the Emirate of Abu Dhabi. Saif and Hamid are half-brothers of the President of the UAE, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed.
The second Emirati whose passport was found in Khartoum is Khalid Abdul Wahab Mustafa Ayaz, known as Khalid Abdul Wahab Al-Khaja, who serves as the Secretary-General of the “Global Charity Authority” and holds a doctorate in jurisprudence from the University of Sharjah.
The Global Charity Authority was established in 1984 by an emiri decree from Sheikh Hamid bin Rashid Al-Nuaimi, the ruler of Ajman.
Sudan Horizon has obtained video footage of Khalid Al-Khaja in Sudan during Ramadan 2023, just days before the outbreak of war in Sudan. In the video, Al-Khaja is seen visiting Sudanese families in a popular area, wearing a vest bearing the logo of the Global Charity Authority.
This video contradicts the UAE denial mentioned in the statement by the UAE representative at the United Nations, who claimed that five of the six passports belonged to a delegation from the international charity organisation—based in the UAE—that went to Sudan in May 2022.
Sudan Horizon points out that the Sudanese authorities did not directly accuse the Emirati passport holders whose passports were found during military operations in Khartoum; instead, they used the discovery to affirm the UAE’s direct support role for the RSF in Sudan.
