EU: RSF Attacks on Port Sudan Undermine Regional Stability, Violate Humanitarian Law

Brussels- Sudanhorizon-Agencies
The European Union has expressed deep concern over the escalation of hostilities in Sudan, describing the drone attacks on Port Sudan, targeting critical infrastructure including civilian facilities, as a significant and worrying expansion of the conflict in previously unaffected areas, where thousands of Sudanese civilians and international partners have moved to escape active combat zones.
In a press statement EU stressed that it “strongly condemns the RSF’s use of drone strikes against civilian and key targets”.
It reiterated in the statement that these actions, supported by international actors, not only undermine the safety and well-being of Sudanese civilians and international personnel residing in Port Sudan, but also undermine regional stability and violate international humanitarian law.
The EU said it sides with the African Union and other international partners in urging all parties involved in the Sudanese conflict to cease hostilities, engage in constructive dialogue and commit to a peaceful solution.
The statement said the EU remained committed to supporting efforts to restore peace and stability in the Sudan.
The statement further called on all parties concerned to prioritize the protection of civilians, ensure unhindered humanitarian access, and work cooperatively towards a sustainable and inclusive peace process.
The EU reiterated its call to all States that supply arms and funds to the warring parties to immediately cease their support and unite for peace in Sudan.
