Egyptian Army Implements 3rd Phase of Crackdown on Illegal Mining Near Sudan Border

Cairo – Sudanhorizon
The Egyptian army announced on Monday that it had carried out the third phase of an operation aimed to combat illegal gold mining in areas near the Sudanese border, targeting individuals described as “criminal elements.”
In a statement, the Egyptian army spokesperson said that “law enforcement personnel from the armed forces and police force are continuing to execute the third phase of the major campaign to confront illegal gold ore mining activities in the Eastern Desert.”
He explained that the campaign followed the dropping of warning leaflets addressed to these “criminal elements,” aiming to assert full sovereignty within Egyptian territory and protect the nation’s assets and natural resources.
The spokesperson emphasized the deep ties uniting the Egyptian and Sudanese nations at both political and popular levels, noting that the peaceful coexistence enjoyed by millions of Sudanese people in Egypt stands as clear evidence of this bond.
He urged the “people of the Nile Valley” to obtain information from official sources and to avoid being swayed by misleading rumors and foreign agendas aimed at undermining the fraternal relations between the Egyptian and Sudanese peoples.
