Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune concluded an official visit to Cairo on Sunday before departing for Oman. This was the first state visit by an Algerian president to the Sultanate.
The discussions between Presidents Tebboune and Sisi primarily focused on the situation in the occupied Palestinian territories. The two leaders agreed on the need for a ceasefire and for holding Israel accountable for actions against Palestinians. They also discussed the situation in Libya and the role Egypt and Algeria could play in achieving comprehensive reconciliation between the eastern and western parts of the country.
In a joint press conference with President Sisi after the talks, President Tebboune expressed sorrow over Sudan’s current state of affairs. Tebboune stated that Algeria and Egypt “will only intervene among our Sudanese brothers to foster reconciliation,” adding that those fueling conflict in the country “will be accountable before God.”
During the meeting, President Sisi noted that Egypt and Algeria share a unified stance on developments in Gaza, oppose foreign intervention in Libya and Sudan, and support political solutions for both countries. He emphasized the importance of reducing tensions to the greatest extent possible.
The Egyptian president also stressed the need for an established government in Sudan to lead the country towards elections and ensure stability.
