UNSC Holds a Session about North Darfur
Sudanhorizon- Exclusive – Mariam Abashar
The United Nations Security Council (UNSC) is holding an open meeting, Wednesday, to be devoted to the most recent developments of the situation in North Darfur.
Official sources told “Sudanhorizon” news website that this session, which will precede the start of the UN General Assembly’s session (79) meetings, is being held in response to a request submitted by the United Kingdom, in light of the most recent aggressions carried out by the Rapid Support Forces rebels against the town of Al-Fashir.
It is to be noted that the Security Council, last Wednesday, held a special session during which arms embargo on Darfur was renewed in line with UNSC Resolution No. 1591, 2005. In that session Sudan was able to thwart off attempts by some states seeking to expand the arms embargo to the whole country.
The Sudanese delegate to the UN, Ambassador Al Harith Idris, told Sudanhorizon that the United Kingdom was then leading malicious activities against the Sudan.
