Egypt Welcomes Sudan’s Rejoining “the Khartoum Process “

Egyptian Foreign Minister Dr. Badr Abdel Ati has welcomed Sudan’s resumption of membership in the Khartoum Process after a four-year absence, stressing his confidence that Sudan will overcome the current crisis it is currently facing, ordeal soon.
The minister has noted that Egypt is sparing no effort in providing logistical support to allow Sudanese to return to their homeland upon their voluntary return, especially at the border crossings.
He emphasized Egypt’s rejection of all forms of displacement carried out by Israel against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip, regardless of their designations, whether forced or what Israel calls voluntary.
Abdel-Ati explained that Egypt hosts 10 million guests from 133 countries, the vast majority of whom hailed from Sudan and other Arab and African countries, and they stay among Egyptian people, stressing that the Egyptian state provides them with all services required.
He said, “They our guests here in Egypt, despite the many responsibilities and economic pressures that fall on us, such as rising food prices and declining revenues from the Suez Canal.”
He indicated that Egypt loses $600 million monthly due to the drop in the number of ships passing through the Suez Canal, as a result of the security conditions in the southern Red Sea.
He stressed that Egypt needs more cooperation, support, and burden-sharing with the European Union countries and other Western countries, as Egypt bears great responsibilities and needs more support.
He added that, “We are not happy with the current level of support. We need more, as it is not only support for Egypt, but also for the communities hosting the migrants.” He pointed out that there are various forms of support, such as support for the general budget, where basic services are provided to migrants and guests of Egypt.
There is also a need to support the hosted communities, especially in education and health, in addition to the need for more jobs for the 10 million guests looking for opportunities. Work, otherwise they will risk their lives to reach Europe.
The minister noted the need for more investment from European countries to provide more job opportunities for migrants, stressing that Egypt is the only country in the region that has stopped and is trying to stop illegal immigration. He said that Egypt is not blackmailing Europe, but was in more assistance.
