Sudanhorizon – Exclusive – Maryam Absher
Government sources informed the Sudanhorizon news website that the U.S. Special Envoy to Sudan, Tom Perriello, is expected to arrive in Port Sudan on November 17.
The visit will reportedly last one day, during which Perriello will meet with senior state officials to discuss important issues related to bilateral relations, the ongoing war in Sudan, and the international and regional actors whose support for militias has led to thousands of casualties and an unprecedented humanitarian crisis.
Sources indicate that Perriello is also expected to meet with humanitarian organizations, some political forces, and civil society groups. All discussions are planned to take place within Port Sudan.
Media sources have also reported that a delegation from the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) has arrived in Port Sudan to coordinate necessary security arrangements and identify discussion topics before the upcoming talks with government security agencies.
Earlier, Sudanhorizon had reported on the planned visit, noting that it would take place shortly after the conclusion of the U.S. elections.
Additionally, Sudanese Foreign Minister Dr Ali Youssef, in an interview with Al Jazeera Mubasher, reiterated the Sudanese government’s commitment to the Jeddah platform as a means to resolve the Sudanese crisis. He affirmed the government’s willingness to dialogue with the U.S. to halt the war by urging pressure on supporting parties.
