Sudanese Govt Describes Events in El Fasher as War Crimes, Warns of Domestic & Regional Repercussions
Port Sudan – Sudanhorizon
Sudanese government officials have described the events that unfolded in El Fasher, from the city’s year-long siege to its capture by the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), as war crimes and crimes against humanity. They called on the international community and humanitarian organizations to urgently rescue the remaining civilians — both those still trapped in the city and those displaced to other regions.
Speaking at a press conference in Port Sudan on Wednesday, Minister of Culture, Information, and Tourism Khalid Al-Ayser, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation Ambassador Hussein Al-Amin, and Deputy Commissioner for Humanitarian Aid Mona Nour Al-Daem presented the latest updates on the humanitarian situation in the stricken city.
Deputy Commissioner Mona Nour Al-Daem described the recent events in El Fasher as a “major tragedy,” stating that patients and the wounded were brutally executed inside hospitals, and that the RSF had massacred approximately 2,000 civilians within 48 hours of taking control of the city. She said unarmed civilians were mercilessly slaughtered, and those attempting to flee were hunted down, killed, or subjected to sexual violence, leaving no safe escape routes for the displaced.
For his part, Ambassador Hussein Al-Amin, Undersecretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, criticized the international silence over the atrocities in El Fasher. He stressed that the ministry has consistently briefed the international community, through diplomatic missions and at the presidential level, on the worsening humanitarian situation across Sudan, particularly in El Fasher — yet the response has been minimal.
He further explained that the ministry is working in full coordination with other state institutions, adding:
“We informed the international community about the RSF’s mobilization of foreign mercenaries, yet they turned a blind eye. We now warn that chaos may spread across the region, as Sudan serves as a link between the Horn of Africa and the Sahel — both areas plagued by destabilizing elements with multifaceted agendas.”
Ambassador Al-Amin concluded by emphasizing that the international community bears responsibility for the ongoing violations, urging it to take decisive action against the RSF and formally designate it as a terrorist organization.
