Sudanese Delegation Led by FM Arrives in Washington for Bilateral Talks
Port Sudan / Washington – Sudanhorizon
Sudan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Mohieddin Salem Ahmed, has arrived in Washington, D.C., heading a high-level delegation for an official visit to the United States.
In a statement issued on Friday, the Sudanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the visit came at the official invitation of the U.S. government and falls within ongoing efforts to develop bilateral relations between Khartoum and Washington. The discussions will cover issues of mutual concern, including supporting peace efforts in Sudan, enhancing economic and humanitarian cooperation, and rebuilding relations on the basis of mutual respect and shared interests, according to the statement.
The visit follows widespread speculation on Sudanese social media suggesting that negotiations might be taking place between the Sudanese Armed Forces and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) under U.S. mediation. In response, the Transitional Sovereignty Council issued a firm denial, stressing that no direct or indirect talks are being held with the RSF.
Well-informed sources told Sudanhorizon that the ongoing meetings in Washington are bilateral discussions between the Sudanese government and U.S. officials to address the Sudan crisis, emphasizing that they are unrelated to any form of negotiation with the RSF.
The sources added that the Sudanese delegation, led by Minister Mohieddin Salem, includes senior military and security figures, and that the talks will focus on the two sides’ visions for achieving a ceasefire and ending the war in Sudan.
