Russian Ambassador to Sudan, Andrey Chernov, on Wednesday called for sufficient support and cooperation to enable Russian companies to invest in Sudan through the development of oil fields and increased production.

During his meeting with Sudanese Minister of Energy and Oil, Mutasim Ibrahim Ahmed, in Port Sudan, Chernov revealed the existence of ready-to-launch investment projects in Sudan. He pointed out that several Russian companies are already active in the oil and energy sector, such as Zarubezhneft and Gazprom.

For his part, Minister Mutasim Ibrahim Ahmed reaffirmed ongoing cooperation with Russia in the oil and electricity sectors, confirming Sudan’s participation in the upcoming Russian Energy Week with ready and immediately implementable projects.

He announced the backing and directives of Sudan’s top leadership to cooperate with Russia in the oil and electricity sectors through productive partnerships that would benefit both countries.

The minister outlined the available investment opportunities in Sudan, including oil and gas exploration and production, field development, as well as cooperation across various technical aspects of the oil and electricity industries.

The meeting also discussed the importance of expanding cooperation between Russia and Sudan in the fields of oil and electricity, alongside Sudan’s participation in the Russian Energy Week to be held in Moscow in mid-October.

Last year, Sudan and Russia signed understandings on investment and the entry of Russian companies into the Sudanese oil sector. Russian companies Rasiy Global Services and Zarubezhneft signed a memorandum of understanding with Bashayer Petroleum Pipeline Company for cooperation in petroleum services. Preparations were also made for final agreements on several files, including partnerships with Sudapet and investment in the oil and petroleum services sector.
