Sudanese Foreign Ministry: US Sanctions Will Not Help Achieve Peace
Port Sudan – Sudanhorizon
The Sudanese government on Sunday underlined that the sanctions recently imposed by the US Treasury Department would not help achieve peace nor maintain international peace and security.
On Friday, the United States imposed sanctions on Jibril Ibrahim and the Al-Baraa Bin Malik group accusing the two of involvement in fueling the ongoing conflict and of having links with the Iranian government.
The Sudanese Foreign Ministry affirmed in a statement that the best way to address crises relies primarily on direct engagement and not on assumptions promoted by some parties with vested political agenda that does not serve the best interests of the Sudanese people.
It indicated in this regard that achieving peace in Sudan could possibly be a shared goal of regional and international communities, but it is primarily a Sudanese affair, based on the aspirations of all Sudanese people.
It emphasized that the Sudanese government is responsible for achieving these aspirations using to this end all means, including engaging, and joint work with all parties within a framework of respect for national sovereignty.
