Red Sea Cable Break Disrupts Internet in Asia and the Middle East

Internet monitoring group NetBlocks has explained that internet connectivity in several countries, including India and Pakistan, has been affected by a submarine cable break in the Red Sea.
NetBlocks noted that similar internet cuts were observed on the networks of Etelsat and Du in the United Arab Emirates, according to Reuters.
It was not immediately clear who was responsible for the damage, but NetBlocks identified disruptions affecting cable systems near Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
Microsoft said on Saturday that Microsoft Azure users may experience increased latency due to multiple submarine fiber outages in the Red Sea.
The company said its users may experience service disruptions on traffic routes across the Middle East. Azure, the world’s second-largest cloud services provider after Amazon (AMZN.O), rerouted traffic through alternative network routes, and network traffic was not interrupted. Microsoft said, “We expect higher latency for some data previously transiting through the Middle East. Network data not transiting through the Middle East will not be affected.”
